Formwave — FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What Formwave is, how it works, and what it costs.

What is Formwave?

Formwave is an AI sound-sample generator for music producers and composers. You describe a sound in text, optionally blend in up to 3 of your own reference sounds, and Formwave generates a new 44.1 kHz WAV sample — loops or one-shots — in your chosen key and BPM.

How does it work?

Type a prompt describing the sound you want (and optionally a negative prompt for what to avoid), add up to 3 reference sounds with independent timbre and melody weights, set key, BPM and bars for a loop or a duration for a one-shot, then generate. Each generation produces a new sample you can play, star, download, or reuse as a reference.

What does Formwave cost?

Formwave uses prepaid credits at 5¢ per generation. Top-ups: $5 for 100 sounds, $20 for 400 sounds, $50 for 1,000 sounds. New accounts using the LAUNCH25 signup bonus get $25 in free credits — about 500 sounds.

Do I need a subscription?

No. There is no subscription — you buy credits when you need them and unused credits don't expire.

What are reference sounds?

Reference sounds steer a generation toward audio you already have. You can add up to 3, each with its own timbre weight (how much of its texture and character carries over) and melody weight (how much of its melodic contour carries over) — so you can borrow the texture of one sound and the melody of another.

Can Formwave make both loops and one-shots?

Yes. Loops are generated at your chosen BPM and bar count in a specific key or chord, so they sit in your project without stretching. One-shots are generated at a duration you set.

What format are the samples?

Every generation is a 44.1 kHz WAV file. You can download it or drag it straight from the browser to your desktop.

How do I get sounds into my DAW?

Download the WAV (or drag it from the browser to your desktop or Finder), then drop it into your DAW like any other sample. Files are named formwave_… so they're easy to find in a session later.
